EAST LONDON – In an extraordinary display of generosity and commitment, the Fort Hare Foundation(FHF) has raised a staggering R700,340.90 at its recent Chancellor’s Annual Fundraising Golf Day and Gala Dinner.
The event was held at the prestigious East London Golf Course on 23 August 2024, the event drew 112 golfers and a packed Gala Dinner at Hemingways Casino, underscoring the unwavering support for the University of Fort Hare’s strategic initiatives.
In addition, the funds raised will propel key projects forward, transforming the university’s landscape through infrastructure improvements, library expansions, construction of a multipurpose centre, modernization of science labs, heritage digitization and vital scholarships for deserving students.
Furthermore, a remarkable R570,540.90 was contributed by key sponsors, including Standard Bank, Bayport, First National Bank, Nedbank, Old Mutual and Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency. Direct donations and a thrilling auction added a further R68,600 and R61,200, respectively.
The Director of the Fort Hare Foundation Nokulunga Mnqeta expressed heartfelt gratitude, “We are overwhelmed by the incredible support. This remarkable feat demonstrates unwavering faith in our mission to elevate education and preserve the University of Fort Hare’s rich heritage.”
